I walked in her office. Close to tears, she tells me of her horrible day and the pressure of her job, the expectations that she could not cope with from her boss, and the reasons why the leader of the organization did not understand her own directions. She went on to explain that she continues to pray for guidance and strength to get her to tomorrow as she choked backed tears.
Some people have bad days at work. She has them everyday. There is always another task that is pushing her over the edge and an enemy who wants to see her fail. Perhaps it is good to pray for so much strength.
Maybe she can’t adjust to pressure or she doesn’t like to work. I think it is the latter, for the employer we share is excellent and working for this organization is one of the best places to work because of the benefits, wages, time off, and ability to be creative on the job. For some reason, she is always on the brink of tears.
And then she prays. Apparently she is a Christian lady, one who gains strength from the Lord in times of trouble. And for her, the times are at hand. I say this tongue-in-cheak because she simply does not handle life’s pressure.
You see the irony here? A woman who trusts in the Lord for strength and prays about her problems is the weakest with the most problems. I do not blame God. While I have had my own bad times I have found that my needs are met and solutions are provided.
Her problem is that she creates her own problems time and again. We have all seen it. You try to give someone good advice, they ignore it, get into trouble, and wonder why God let it happen. A worker does a bad job and gets in trouble.
Being a believer does not entitle a person to reckless abandon. Nor does it give freedom do a bad job and blame others. Will God’s favor be directed toward to dumb and lazy or the one who made his master a profit? Read the parable of the talents for clarification.
Workers like her make us look bad. She asserts her faith in the Lord. Bible verses attached to her email signature, talk about prayer and church. She is the weakest link in our chain. The work is late and of poor quality. She had all kinds of fun when she found out about my faith. She thought she could dump on me and talk trash about non-believers.
I wouldn’t bring this up is if was an isolated incident. Unfortunately, many Christians are known as bad workers, like our minds are someplace else. I understand that sometimes they are, but am I not obligated to produce for an employer who gives me money every two weeks? A Christian’s work should be of excellence in and out of the church. We don’t get a pass for our faith.
